With one week of classes already completed, the 2011-2012 school year is off to an outstanding start at Crockett 5th Grade Center! Some 540 5th graders from five elementary feeder schools have come together as one, and are now proud Crockett Bulldogs.
Looking back at the first week, Ms. Suzy Meyer, Crockett 5GC Principal, described it as “the smoothest start to a school year that she had ever seen.” Besides the new school building, teachers, and classes, students at Crockett 5GC are experiencing Breakfast in the Classroom each morning, and the reviews have been very…tasty! Students are also enjoying a new lunch service, with expanded menu items.
Crockett students are also able to take orchestra classes, as part of their Specials Classes schedule. Crockett 5GC is also one of the very few elementary campuses in the nation which has its own online newspaper, the Bulldog Bulletin, which is staffed entirely by students. Crockett students also have the opportunity to participate in several campus organizations, including the Garden, Music, Art, and Chess Clubs.
Crockett 5GC is especially known for its high academic standards. In its first year as a fifth grade center, Crockett 5GC earned a “Recognized School” ranking from the Texas Education Agency for its outstanding 2011 TAKS test scores.
Also, for the first time this school year, Crockett students and their parents will be able to keep informed at home of all the Crockett news and happenings through the social media sites, Facebook and Twitter. These sites are updated regularly by Crockett teachers and staff, so be sure to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter!
It promises to be a fantastic year at Crockett 5th Grade Center, and the Bulldog Bulletin will be there to capture it all!
